02.07.2020 - Preparing to re-open

Sencio Community Leisure are working hard behind the scenes to prepare for a safe and successful return.

We understand your concerns, and have read every response to our surveys and discussed the findings amongst each centre. We are also monitoring direct messages and see that many of you are keen to return to the gym and pools. Whilst we do have a date to re-open, your safety is and will be our priority when it comes to opening our doors again.

You will be informed of safety procedures, which facilities are open and when, and how you can prepare to come back to the centres ahead of time.

For now, please be assured that we have heard your concerns for cleanliness, social distancing and membership fees. We have seen your suggestions for how we can help you to feel comfortable coming back and are using your feedback in our strategies to re-open.

Further government announcements will confirm which restrictions will be in place for leisure facilities and will affect how and when we open. The anticipated restrictions could mean: fewer people allowed in the gym at one time, which we plan to execute via a book-in-advance system; 2-metre social distancing; periods between exercise sessions for extensive cleaning; and smaller class sizes or re-locating classes to larger areas. In the swimming pools, public swim sessions will also be limited and we will encourage you to arrive wearing your costume, and dry/change quickly before going home to reduce time spent in shared areas. Swimming lessons are likely to be suspended for longer and pool parties will not be available.

We are also taking guidance from leading bodies within sport and leisure including Community Leisure UK and UK Active. This guidance, combined with your feedback and our own industry knowledge will form a robust strategy for allowing safe, responsible exercise at our centres.

19.03.2020 - Gym and Classes

Edenbridge: The gym remains open and classes continue with reduced numbers to ensure sufficient space between exercisers

Sevenoaks: The gym remains open and classes continue with the exception of Boxing Circuits and Combat Fitness which are cancelled until further notice. Other classes continue with reduced numbers.

White Oak Leisure Centre: the gym remains open, but from Monday 23 March, all classes will be cancelled except Aqua and Aqua Deep Water which will continue as scheduled


A message from Wellness Manager Phil Wyatt:

In light of the government’s guidance regarding social distancing we have decided with immediate effect to reduce the numbers of attendees at our fitness classes.

For those customers who have already booked attendance at classes, especially popular ones such as Body Pump and Body Attack, please contact your centre to ensure that your place is still booked.

At both Sevenoaks and Edenbridge fitness gyms, we will be “blocking out” every other piece of CV equipment to ensure there is additional spacing for customers.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and we will email customers with any update. Let’s all work together to keep ourselves and each other safe and healthy.

17.03.2020 - Customer Communication

“In line with guidance from the appropriate authorities we have increased the frequency of cleaning throughout our centres and the focus on hygiene management in our gyms. Specifically, we have:
• Increased the frequency of cleaning high touch areas such as, door handles, lockers, changing rooms, equipment etc.
• Redoubled efforts to ensure that soap dispensers remain filled in all changing rooms and WC facilities
• Ensured hand sanitisers and are refilled frequently
• Continued to remind customers of the importance of good hygiene both in and out of the centre

Customers are taking extra care to increase personal hygiene, which has meant demand for hand sanitiser gel and cleaning materials has increased significantly. We will continue to do everything we can to keep the centres well stocked of these items.

Secondly, we have advised and will continue to advise all of our staff on the latest advice and recommendations from the government and Public Health England on what to do to keep themselves safe.

Thirdly, we will keep you informed. Advice from the UK’s health authorities is very clear: the risk of a customer becoming infected if another customer or staff member has tested is positive is very low. However, if we are notified of any relevant issue at any of our centres or if a customer contracts the virus and has visited one of our centres we will follow the advice and guidance of the local Health Protection Team and notify customers and undertake a thorough clean of the centre.”
